In the same 2015/2016 report the DIT reported that, out of the total 2213 projects, 1130 were new investments, the remainder being takeovers, mergers and expansions. As for which sectors of the economy the new projects and associated jobs aimed at? 561 projects were in the financial and service sector with 41,975 new and safeguarded jobs, closely followed by advanced manufacturing with 518 projects with 37,472 new and safeguarded jobs.

For clarity it should be pointed out that the DIT (Department for Internal Trade whose purpose in life is to encourage and support FDI) calculate new jobs as the projected employment from new FDI projects over the three years after the date of reporting. In other words the predicted new 83000 new jobs and 2213 projects in 2016 haven’t necessarily happened yet. As with all major changes, they can’t be turned on like a light switch.
